The
Provincial
Homelessness Initiative (PHI)
was launched as a result of the Premier's Task Force on
Homelessness, Mental Illness and Addictions as a way to help people
who are homeless or at risk of homelessness move beyond temporary
shelter to more secure housing, gain greater self-reliance, and
achieve appropriate employment.
The Provincial Homelessness Initiative provides housing with support services to help break the cycle of homelessness.

was launched as a result of the Premier's Task Force on
Homelessness, Mental Illness and Addictions as a way to help people
who are homeless or at risk of homelessness move beyond temporary
shelter to more secure housing, gain greater self-reliance, and
achieve appropriate employment. Since its launch in December 2004, more than 5,000 PHI units
have been allocated in communities across B.C.
Through the Provincail Homelessness Initiative,
the Province allocates funding to
developments that integrate subsidized housing with support
services for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness,
people with mental illnesses and physical disabilities, those with
drug and alcohol addictions, Aboriginal peoples, youth, and women
with children fleeing abusive relationships.
The Provincial Homelessness Initiative represents the
provincial government’s commitment to find innovative
solutions and to work in partnership with other levels of
government, housing providers, and community groups to address
homelessness in British Columbia.
