Supportive Housing Registration Service

The Supportive Housing Registration (SHR) offers a single application and central registry for people seeking supportive housing in the City of Vancouver.

The SHR application and registry will provide a pool of applicants for the 14 city-owned supportive housing sites in Vancouver and the provincially owned SRO hotels operated by Non-Profit agencies. This simplified service ensures that applicants and the referral agencies supporting them only have to submit one application. Previously, they needed to apply to each separate organization operating various buildings.

BC Housing, in collaboration with non-profit housing providers, the City of Vancouver, Vancouver Coastal Health, and the Ministry of Housing and Social Development developed this registration service to manage the allocation of supportive housing units in the City.

The government-owned SROs provide long-term accommodation in single rooms, typically with shared bathrooms and kitchens. Repairs and renovations to these hotels are improving the quality of this housing and ensuring that health and safety standards are met. Staffing provided by non-profit operators is helping to ensure tenants have the supports they need to remain housed.

Applications are available from our Vancouver Coastal Office at 369 Terminal Avenue, from many non-profit agencies in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, as well as from BC Housing’s website .
