Homeless Outreach Program

By taking the services to the streets, the Homeless Outreach Program connects people to housing, income assistance, and community-based social and health services.

People who have been marginalized from society by mental illness, addiction, abuse or homelessness are sometimes unable to access the services available to them.

The Province created the Homeless Outreach Program to reach this especially vulnerable group of people and are taking support services and intervention to the street.

Outreach workers connect people with housing and income support, and link them to other support services, such as life skills training, medical assistance, household and financial management, and landlord assistance. When needed, they also make referrals to BC Housing's Health Services team, to ensure that applicants for the Supportive Housing Registration service  will be placed in the building that provides them with the most appropriate support level.

The Homeless Outreach Program is an important element of the Province's Homelessness Intervention Project. The goal of the project is to reduce chronic homelessness by aligning several government ministries, health authorities, the non-profit sector and other agencies that address chronic homelessness to better integrate the delivery of services.
