The Province and the City of Surrey have partnered together to develop new social and supportive housing

In April 2008, Surrey City Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Province and the City to expedite the approval of up to 106 new social and supportive housing units on two city-owned sites. Funding to begin construction for these sites was announced on April 3, 2009. Click here to read the news release.

The first site, at 13670 94A Avenue, is currently a parking lot. It will be developed to provide supportive housing for people requiring addictions treatment and rehabilitation and/or who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The development will include a 20-bed sobering centre, up to 30 units of stabilization and transitional housing, up to 40 units of supportive housing, and space for outreach addictions services and a mental health clinic.

The second site, at 13770 70th Avenue, is currently vacant. It will be developed with about 36 self-contained supportive housing units for women and children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. This development will be operated by YWCA Vancouver.
