The Province and the District of Maple Ridge have partnered to develop new social and supportive housing.

In October 2008, the Province and the District of Maple Ridge approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to expedite the development of up to 40 new supportive housing units.

The Province will pay all the costs to design the new housing developments through to the issuing of development and building permits. These include fees for architects and consultants, permit fees, legal costs and survey and engineering costs.

The district-owned property, at the northeast corner of 222nd Street and Brown Avenue, is proposed for self-contained housing units and space for support services for low-income singles who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, with priority given to those currently living in Maple Ridge. The development will be operated and managed by the Alouette Home Start Society.

On April 3, 2009, the Province announced $9.2 million in funding, including $8.2 million in capital costs and $1 million in land, to begin construction on the first supportive housing development being developed as part of the partnership between the Province and the District of Maple Ridge to break the cycle of homelessness.
