The Province and the City of Kelowna have partnered together to develop new social and supprotive housing

In March 2008, Kelowna City Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Province and the City to expedite the approval of up to 140 new social and supportive housing units on three city-owned sites.

The first property, at 330 Boyce Crescent, is currently vacant. It will be developed with 30-50 units of apartment-style housing plus space for support services housing for low-income singles who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The site will be operated and managed by The Canadian Mental Health Association – Kelowna Branch (CMHA Kelowna).

The second property, at 195 Rutland Road North, is currently a parking lot. It will be developed with 30-50 units of apartment-style housing plus space for support services for low-income singles who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The site will be operated and managed by the John Howard Society of the Central and South Okanagan (JHSCSO).

The third property, at 2938 Tutt Street, is currently a parking lot. It will be developed with up to 40 larger family-type units for women and children. This site will be operated and managed by New Opportunities for Women (NOW) Canada Society.

On April 9, 2009, the Province announced $22.7 million in funding to begin construction on the first two housing developments being created as part of the partnership between the Province and City of Kelowna to break the cycle of homelessness. Read the news release.
