The Province and the City of Campbell River have partnered to develop new social and supportive housing.

In October 2008, the Province and the City of Campbell River approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to expedite the development of up to 54 new supportive housing units on two sites.

The Province will pay all the costs to design the new housing developments through to the issuing of development and building permits. These include fees for architects and consultants, permit fees, legal costs and survey and engineering costs.

The city-owned property, at 1040 Dogwood Street, will be developed with a combination of up to 30 self-contained one- and two-bedroom units for homeless women and their children. The Campbell River and North Island Transition Society (CRNITS) will manage the housing and provide on-site support services.

The second property, at 280 Nikola Road, will be provided by the Campbell River and District Association for Community Living (CRADACL). The site, which is currently occupied by an out-dated group home, will be developed with up to 24 units of permanent affordable housing with support services for adults with developmental disabilities.

On April 6, 2009, the Province announced $7.3 million to begin construction on the first development to be developed as part of the partnership between the Province and the City of Campbell River to break the cycle of homelessness. More information can be found in the news release.
